Galada (Lobster Bengali)

Galada is a single-weight Bengali display face in the lineage of brush-lettered signage — the Bengali answer to a Lobster-style script, drawn for shopfronts, posters and packaging rather than paragraphs.

The reference material was painted rather than printed: hand-lettered shop signs where the brush dictates the contrast and the letterer improvises the joins. Translating that into a static font meant choosing which improvisations to keep and which to regularise.
It is unapologetically a display face. Set it large, give it room, and let the swelling strokes do the work. At small sizes the modulation collapses, which is exactly why the family stops at one weight.
